HfA responds to COVID-19 pandemic in Tanzania

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, governments have released case and death figures, updating them daily.

By contrast, on presidential order Tanzanian authorities stopped publishing official figures on the extent of the outbreak since early May, causing concern to neighbouring countries and international organizations on the ground.

We know from first-hand experience that Tanzania’s health system lacks sufficient infrastructure and materials to confront a potential collapse of their healthcare institutions.

Therefore, HfA deployed its operational response in the populations where we already work, as an emergency intervention by supplying the community healthcare centre in Lesoit and the regional hospital in Kiteto with COVID-19 protection equipment, health material and medicines to reinforce health professionals within the current crisis.
